In addition to our community advocacy, our church believes in advocating on behalf of each of our members as a gay and lesbian spiritual being. We believe that the spiritual growth of each person is intimately tied in with their day-to-day life and we encourage everyone to examine themselves and look for ways of personal improvement.
The Spiritual Challenge of Alcohol and Drugs
Among other self-improvement issues we advocate for in the gay and lesbian community is an awareness of the persuasiveness of alcohol and drugs. We believe it is especially important that as we grow as spiritual beings we be aware of what we are doing to our bodies and minds with alcohol and recreational drugs.
We encourage you to do the same, and offer a Personal Inventory of Chemical Dependency to help you examine how alcohol and drugs are affecting you.
The Facts of Life
Because American culture, and the gay and lesbian community in particular, is so youth oriented we often forget that we will all die some day. Even though our community has become more aware of death thanks to the presence of AIDS and Breast Cancer among us, we rarely plan for the inevitable.
As Christians we obviously believe in life after death. We also believe it is only Christian to make life after your death easier on those who are still living. It is a kindness to those you leave behind to finalize the details of your will, and leave specific instructions for how you want your funeral and burial taken care of.
Although we can't help with the will, we have included a form we call "It's Your Funeral" with important information your family will need after your death. After all, it is the right thing to do.
