FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA (September 14, 2001) -- Gentle Spirit Christian Church announced today the services schedule for this Sunday will be a "Memorial Service", for the nation and all the victims of the brutal attack on the country September 11th. This special service will include the lighting of a "memorial candle" and the reading of a partial list of the names of victims.

Rev. Paul M. Turner the Sr. Pastor of the church stated the need for this type of service by saying, "We are deeply saddened by the events in New York, Washington, and Pittsburgh. We are swinging between tears of grief and deep waves of anger not to mention a certain amount of fear of further attacks. The devastating images of the Trade Center bring us to our knees. Images of people who are sworn enemies of the United States celebrating this destruction strikes a blow to our very souls. The thought of thousands injured or dead bring us untold anguish and pain. This kind of terrorism makes no sense at all. This kind of violence while common in the world, once again speaks out loudly and painfully of what intolerance, hate and bigotry can do to all of God's creation. And while there are no final answers, our faith tells us to come to our God in these times. This special service will allow us to do just that, come to be with God to grieve and begin to heal."

The "Memorial Service" will begin at 7pm at Gentle Spirit Christian Church's place of worship, Epworth United Methodist Church 1561 McLendon Avenue, which is located in Candler Park. The community is welcome, invited and needed.
